According to an IBM report, cyber-attacks in general are on the rise and the global IT threat landscape
has shifted from cyber-crime to smaller, stealthier customized attacks on government, financial services,
manufacturing and healthcare industries. IBM’s Security Intelligence team reports there were 237 million
cyber incidents in 2006 and 108 million of those were reconnaissance attacks to discover devices, software,
or vulnerabilities. Healthcare was hit with more than 17 million cyber-attacks that year. 1
That was ten years
ago and the problem has only gotten worse.
